What Are Overhead Door Stops?
Overhead door stops protect door panels and other components from damage by limiting the door’s range of motion. Mounted at the top of the door and attached to its frame, these stops consist of a sliding arm that moves within the boundaries and a rod or track containing a spring or bumper. This mechanism prolongs a door’s lifespan and adds additional convenience improvements.
When someone opens the door, the arm moves along the track until it hits that spring or bumper, reliably stopping the door without damaging it or the surrounding walls. Overhead door stops limit a door’s range of motion between 85 and 110 degrees and may come with optional hold-open capabilities to keep the door in place at a certain point.
