There’s a lot to consider when choosing a doorknob or finger pull to complete your glass shower door design.
Shower doors can slide, swing or fold in on a hinge. The right type of door hardware makes it easier for a user to open or close the door when entering or exiting the shower. For example, a finger pull may be the right choice for a door that swings up, as it allows the person taking the shower to grip the handle when pulling on the door.
A doorknob may be a better choice for a shower door that slides, as a person can gently push on the knob to move the door along its tracks. A double-sided doorknob can make it easy to slide the door open from outside the shower and from the inside.
Consider the other hardware in use when selecting the knob finish. For example, if the shower enclosure has brushed nickel towel bars and hinges, a doorknob in an antique black finish or polished chrome will look out of place.
The doorknobs or pulls you choose should fit the glass door physically and aesthetically. The thickness of your glass shower doors is significant in determining which knobs or pulls will work. Some knobs are designed to work with heavy glass doors, up to ½ inch thick. Others work best with lighter doors with a glass thickness of up to 3/8 inch.
If the knob is too small for the glass, it won’t attach completely. Knobs that are too large will fit loosely on the door, making it difficult to open or close.
